In our morning market scoop:

  • The market consensus was that the FOMC will keep interest rates steady at 2.25% and leave the policy statement largely unchanged.
  • Nothing like a refreshing Coke for “Energy”. Soft drink power house is also looking into the future of energy drinks.

Happy Feel Good Friday!

FOMC-Announcement-2

“Interest Rates are Grate”

What’s the scoop? FOMC interest rate decision

The U.S. Federal Reserve's Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) have released their interest rate decision last night 21:00 SAST to no surprise.

  • The market consensus was that the FOMC will keep interest rates steady at 2.25% and leave the policy statement largely unchanged.

The big picture We have seen the FED come under scrutiny from President Trump earlier in October as he does not agree with the FED’s outlook to raise interest rates as Trump feels the U.S does not have an inflation problem. An increase in the U.S. interest rate can have a positive effect on the greenback which might curb the run we have seen in the U.S Indices of late.

What does all this mean for me?

  • If the FOMC increase rates once more this year it will just add to the pressures facing the SA consumer. Our currency will depreciate against the Dollar which means that goods and services will cost even more over the medium term.

“Coke Friday” …Coca-Cola that is!

What’s the scoop? Coca-Cola Companies new ventures?

The only thing like Coca-Cola, is Coca-Cola itself! This 1942 slogan from Coca-Cola still rings true to this day 76 years later.

  • With better than expected Q3 earnings it is evident that Coke is going from strength to strength. This soft drink power house is also looking into the future of soft drinks and is currently looking at some interesting prospects.

The big picture it was reported by Reuters that the Coca-Cola Company will be entering the Energy Drink market by launching is very own Coke Energy drink. Early in September reports serviced that Coca-Cola was looking into cannabis and the possibility of making marijuana infused soft drinks.

What does all this mean for me?

  • Coca-Cola has been around since 1886 and today one of the most recognizable brands on the planet. The company has reinvented itself repeatedly and I suspect for the consumer there will be more interesting products from Coke soon.
